Partner Organizations of CSHRN

DIHR

DIHR as professional human rights organization works nationally as a national human rights institution in Denmark as well internationally with its international mandate. DIHR was established according to the law by the Danish Parliament in 1978 with the name of Danish Center for Human Rights. DIHR consists of departments: Department for Freedoms and Civic Participation, Human Rights and Business, Justice and Equal Treatment, Rule of Law and information. International works of DIHR started in the beginnings of 80s. Today, DIHR works almost in all continents: in Africa, America, Asia, and Europe within 50 human rights projects and programs.

DIHR started its support for human rights in Afghanistan immediately after the regime of the Taliban had collapsed. The involvement of DIHR is divided into four phases:

Identification phase, July 2002-July 2004: During this period, DIHR organised dialogues amongst human rights activists and organisations on what could be done for supporting human rights in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, DIHR organised human rights trainings for human rights organisations with a focus on the rights of women.

First phase, August 2004 - July 2006. Based on the results of the dialogues held with Afghans, the Civil Society and Human Rights Network was established in August 2004 with the support of DIHR. During this period, CSHRN worked mainly in the fields of awareness raising and capacity building of human rights organisations. Due to security reasosns, CSHRN worked only in Kabul .

Second phase, August 2006 - December 2008: During this period, DIHR supported CSHRN in the fields of capacity building, awareness raising and advocacy. During this period, the CSHRN activities were expanded to three strategic regions of Afghanistan.

Third phase, January 2009 - December 2011: During this period, DIHR will continue to support CSHRN with more sustainable strategy. DIHR and CSHRN will work on reducing women's rights violations, will focus more on advocacy in the field of civil rights, in particular on the topic of Access to Information and carry out capacity building of civil society organisations in order to promote human rights in Afghanistan.
